With a sound spanning the decades, from the blues-rock royalty of Zeppelin and Sabbath, through the stadium-filling riffs of Guns n’ Roses and the dark atmospheres of Alice in Chains, right up to the hard-hitting grooves of Queens of the Stone Age, Voodoo Johnson are proudly flying the flag for ROCK in a soulless era of manufactured reality shows, and mannequins more obsessed with designer labels, and gimics than in good music.
Formed in 2006, the band’s hard work and constant gigging earned them support slots with the likes of Duff McKagan’s Loaded, Zico Chain, Valient Thorr, Sign, Hawkwind and Tokyo Dragons. They also played at the KERRANG MCN final after beating off competition from 500 other acts from around the UK. These gigs enabled the band to sell over 1000 copies of their ‘II’ EP, released in February 2008 to great response.
Radio plays by Bruce Dickinson on the BBC Radio 6 Rock Show, and Alex Zane on Myspace Mars Planets Radio further enhanced their reputation, as did a roaring session on TV Show Ditto Music Live on Sky Channel Red TV.
The Birmingham-based rockers are soon to release their hotly anticipated 2nd EP entitled "Into The Red" on 2nd March 2009. With Gavin Monaghan (Kings of Leon, Editors, Ryan Adams) at the helm, they have crafted a release of BIG, Epic, Hard Hitting Rock songs exploring themes such as loss, regret and revenge.
2008 proved to be a hugely successful year for Voodoo Johnson, but this should come as no surprise after the hard work that has been squeezed into such a short space of time. With the utmost commitment to their music plus a rare creative drive and a real loyalty to their fans, it looks as though they’ll take this year by storm too.
