The Overnight Success Story (a.k.a. TOSS) are a four piece pop punk outfit from Guildford, Surrey.
The band began as a four piece in August 2006, with Josh Manley (Bass/Backing Vocals), Ian Kitt (Guitar), Ashli Lawrence (Drums) and Nick Waugh (Vocals). Originally a cover band, they started writing their own material later that year before playing their first gig at Plantation Café, Guildford in November 2006. However, things started to go wrong for the band after this, with tension building between Nick and the others, leading to his departure in January 2007.
Whilst TOSS were still writing new material as a three piece (with Josh taking over full vocal duties), the gigs they played were less high profile, less frequent, and seen by less people. These factors, along with growing strain in Ashli’s family life led to the band going on hiatus at the end of July 2007, after the recording of their first demo (entitled Pots and Pans) with Jamie Webster of Kill Claudio.
However, in January of the following year, things started to look up for the band, as they recruited Simon Harvey as their new drummer, and Alex Coombes as the lead guitarist for their new recordings. TOSS now have an abundance of material, a strong following in Guildford, and a new EP (The Puking Priest EP), which was recorded in Guildford by producer, Brad Tyler.
