To The Bones formed in January 2004, using limbs, organs and various body parts. Made up of college friends and brothers, the five-piece started gigging as soon as they had formed, continually developing their sound whilst building up a devoted following in and around their home town of Bolton. The fruit of their first recording session was the five track ‘BeakerizerEP’.Recorded during August 2004 in Rhys’ bedroom, using a £3.00 microphone and the most basic of recording equipment, Beakerizer proved popular amongst the band’s growing fan base. Financial limitations meant that the band had to distribute blank CDRs to fans so that they could burn copies of their own EP!Nevertheless, Beakerizer earned excellent reviews from local journalists and webzines alike. Further copies were given away at gigs, helping build the fan base even more.Constant gigging, coupled with the firstEP, had created a loyal group of fans for To The Bones. The band soon began gigging further afield, headlining the Manchester Roadhouse, playing to their already passionate fans and also those who were soon to become fans. The band carried on writing songs, developing their sound and pushing the limitations of their instruments. As 2005 arrived, To The Bones made their first trip to London, playing at ‘The Purple Turtle’; much experience was gained, and some fans even travelled all the way down from Bolton and Manchester in order to see them play their first gig in the capital. The New Year also brought new opportunities to record for To The Bones. A large collection of songs had been written since their first nascent efforts to record and this time the band took full advantage of a new studio appearing in Bolton after the demise of local band Kinesis. Using equipment salvaged from the sessions for ‘You Are Being Lied To’, the band worked with Chris McGloin and Mark Pitfield to record ‘The Halo Effect EP’. The band had clearly advanced, making full use of their unusual line up of three guitars to create rich textures that permeate the songs. Five hundred copies were printed and these immediately sold out – most on the launch night, where the band played to 250 adoring fans. The end of 2005 saw the band step up their activities. A five track demo was started, in order that the music industry could be introduced to the dark machine that is To The Bones. With Conor McGloin (ex-Kinesis guitarist) at the helm, the band are currently in the process of mixing and mastering these latest efforts. Combining the vivid rock of Queens Of The Stone Age and the rage of with masterful melodies, just a touch of drug induced psychedelica and a whole heap of uniqueness, new songs such as Rex, The Halo Effect, Tycho and Mirage show a band ready to bring their music to the masses. To The Bones are coming, whether you like it or not; get on board, because you sure can’t stop them.
