say something, go on, you know you want to..
The Sea
"Once there was a band that did everything the industry made them do. They press the flesh of sweaty record company execs before toddling off to brownnose various smarmy radio DJS. Then they go and do press conferences where they swish their overgrown yet carefully coifed John Frieda Kasabian-esque dos over eager fans who sell their hair on eBay. The Sea are not this band. The Sea doesn’t give a crap about the industry. They don’t care for the marketiers, the agencies, the opinions. What they do care about is playing loud and hard and lots.As a result London brothers Alex and Peter Chisholm relocated to Cornwall pausing only to liberate their drums and guitars from the big smoke. With a freeform approach and a vast supply of written material the brothers suddenly saw themselves with no limits."
The Sea are 2 brothers Peter and Alex who make music for themselves, with not a penny to their names they have set about recording what they do in a garage somewhere on the south west coast of England..........We started this band for many reasons; firstly as a reaction to the constraints that we put upon ourselves by being in a 4 piece band (firstly VOID, later FutureKings) and although it was a pleasure, it has come to the point where Peter is producing so much material that it is impossible to share with 4 minds.Secondly constantly doing things to get noticed by people who sign the cheques in the music industry started to drive us insane! So we cut loose and did what all bands should be, totally selfish, just for us, music. We wanted to do something with no rules, where anything goes, we have both been more and more influenced by jazz over the last year, after listening to Django Reinhardt and Acoustic Ladyland and although we are unable to meet these high standards of musicianship, we love the freedom they have.In many ways jazz has always been in us, from a young age both of us were influenced by Julian Diggle, Alex with drums and percussion, and Peter with guitar and piano, Jools (Jazz Monk) has played with many greats and is himself a genius, he not only gave us a foundation in these instruments but also how to BE a musician and see the music, after that we it was time to find our path.Essentially however we are a rock band, Peter is influenced by Hendrix, Jack White, Clapton and the song writing brilliance of Lennon and Mc Cartney, Alex is influenced by Ginger Baker, John Bonham and Mitch Mitchell. So yes rock band, but with a jazz attitude maybe! And without any hint of pretentiousness we just want to push our own boundaries where anything is possible, this is us and this is our art, if people don’t like what we do, tough, we couldn’t give a shit!
