You know the story. Lead singer of biggest band in the country realises he lead singer of biggest band in the country. Realises anything he touches will turn to gold. Ropes in member of small-time indie band that he happens to be a fan of. Gets experimental. Creates musical fusion. In a nutshell, that’s the story of The Last Shadow Puppets. Alex Turner of The Arctic Monkeys decided he wanted to do something else, something a million (maybe not a million) miles away from the world of three-chord-punk and repeat-after-me riff, so he worked with Miles Kane, lead singer in Wirral based band The Rascals, former openers for the Arctics, and The Last Shadow Puppets were born. The full orchestral sound on every track featured on the 2008 debut album “The Age of the Understatement” truly is revolutionary, even if it doesn’t have the everyman element so many relate to in Monkey’s lyrics. The duo could arguably claim to have invented a genre – “Stringdie” anyone?
