The Guilty Hands have a simple ambition: to inject some much-needed drama and romance into the indie scene. In their songs you'll find two lovers finding their way in a graveyard, thrillseekers inviting burglars into their homes, masochists begging their tormentor for another shot of unbearable bliss, and a hysterical mob delivering a fiery brand of justice to an undeserving defendant.
The Guilty Hands sound is rooted in the indie / rock tradition, but they aren't afraid to look further afield - the likes of Kate Bush, David Bowie and Talking Heads have all inspired the quirks that define their sound. Anyone digging into the repertoire of songs will find a catalogue of criss-crossing vocal lines, pounding riffs, multi-layered harmonies, handclaps, distant voices, desperate gasps and whispers.
After a short sabbatical in 2008 to record and tour as backing band to Dead Air (the side project of Joan As Policewoman bassist Rainy Orteca), The Guilty Hands started work with producer Gareth Parton (Foals, The Go! Team, the Pipettes). The resulting tracks - 'Gregory and the Birds', a tale of nightlife idols destined for the indie disco, and 'Upsticks', which asks the question "what happens when you escape the small town but then outgrow the big city?" - are available now through Amazong and iTunes on Bedfellow Records.
