The Hampshire/Surrey border is an area well known for producing top quality bands so it’s no surprise to find that’s where The Fins are based. This five piece band started with a good idea over a pint in a pub although of course there’s a bit more to the story than that.
James, ever the showman, was itching to get back on stage with his guitar. He had already been working with Ryan, a popular local karaoke singer on some acoustic pieces. All they needed were a few more band members. So over the famous pint, Lawrence agreed to play drums and Rauf said he supposed he would play bass.
So where did Macca come from? As Lawrence puts it ‘he just turned up at band practice one day – there he was – a glowing guitar player’
Well that was back in 2005. The people have come to hear the music and the music has been taken to the people. With over 100 gigs around the country, The Fins knew they had a sound people wanted to hear. Having gone down a storm in Egypt, back in the UK The Fins decided to define their style, producing 8 new tracks for 2008.
The sound has been described as ‘quite simply joyous, guitar driven rock and roll’ and their live show as “‘set the stage alight”, while their new single, ”Adapter” hits the listener straight between the eyes as if being caught up in a crossfire battle with Green Day, Muse, Weezer and the Foo Fighters.
But listen carefully. Behind the ‘foot stomping indie rock’ the lyrics often take a darker turn with reflections on life and the characters in it.
With 3 EP’s already under their belts, “Adaptor” will be available for general release on CD and Online 6th October 2008 (Numerical Blue), with the release party at the Camden Barfly on the 11th October, and a 10 date UK tour to follow.
So what of the future? Ryan would like to walk into bar and hear a karaoke singer singing one of The Fins hits. That day is close.
