Since the band first formed in 1990, some 40 different members have passed and gone. Singer/guitarist Anton Newcombe is the core member who always remained; and together with bassist Matt Hollywood, guitarist Dean Taylor, organist Mara Regal, accordionist Dawn Thomas, drummer Brian Glaze and Spokesman for the Revolution Joel Gion they recorded the Massacre's 1995 shoegazer-influenced debut LP Methodrone. In 1996 The Brian Jonestown Massacre released more recordings under their own record label Tangible. ‘Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request’ album, released in 1996 after 4 Eps, is a full-blown homage to the Stones' glorious psychedelic-era excesses. The following year the Brian Jonestown Band had changed their line up and came back with ‘Give it Back’ and ‘Strung Out In Heaven’. Much has been made of the fact that Newcombe is head strong and has just one vision in mind: his own. However, many of the musicians who quit his band have stayed in his orbit and continue working with him in some capacity. The Brian Jonestown Massacre are most famous for their role in the 2004 documentary DiG!, which details their explosive onstage antics and their feud with fellow '60's psych-rock revivalists the Dandy Warhols.Their last record, ‘We are The Radio’ is now out.
