Formed in 1994, System of a Down have been a mainstay of the world’s rock and metal scenes ever since. Led by the mutli-talented vocals of Serj Tankian, the band have released five albums, the first being a self-titled effort in 1998. It was second album ‘Toxicity’ that proved to be their break though, as it debut at number one in both America and Canada. The album, which was number one during the September 11 attacks, was highly lauded as a masterpiece of metal. Following this, the band released a double album – one half titled ‘Mesmerize’ and the other half titled ‘Hypnotize’. Both records went to number one, putting the band in an elite bracket of artists that have had two number one albums in the same year.
