Spiritualized lay a claim to being a genuine trailblazer in modern space-rock. Following in the steps of Punk Floyd, the band play psychedelic music with rock influences on the six studio albums they have released. They formed in 1990 when guitarist Jason Pierce left his previous band Spaceman 3. Several members of Spaceman 3 went with Pierce to the new project, but have since departed, making Pierce the only consistent member. The band's album 'Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space' was voted by NME as the album of the year in 1997 and received great critical acclaim from other quarters.
