The primary symptom of the RUBELLA virus infection is the appearance of a rash, so get ready to scratch.........
Formed October 2008 in London, Rubella are grrrl rock sirens. The band is comprised of Noush (guitar/vox), Gems (bass) and Lisa (drums). The girls met each other via Singapore schools, eminently watchable punch-ups, dating agencies and Google searches for bare chung hot 'n' sexy. Bingo. It turns out they knew each other already, after all.
The girls played their first gig just days after forming and lost no time in making themselves heard across London, going swiftly on to rock Oxjam, Ladyfest and sharing the stage with Innercity Pirates and LA alt-rockers Discovery Zone. In between all that they went into the studio to record their first songs with producer Paul Tipler (Elastica, Forward Russia).
In 2009 John Kennedy has been spinning Napalm on Xfm Xposure, and Nemone has been playing Rubella on BBC Radio 6 Music – adding Napalm to The Lunchbox and interviewing singer Noush live on air. Handpicked to play the Levi’s Ones To Watch residency at Camden Barfly on March 19th, Rubella raised havoc alongside The Chapman Family, Dead Kids and Underground Railroad.
Since then the girls have been playing gigs in, around, and outside London, including two shows at the NXNW Festival in Blackpool and are preparing for a dozen or so more dates across England and Wales this summer. They'll also be releasing a new single soon - watch this space!
The infection is spreading. Prepare for the epidemic.
