Together with Pieter Buttiens (drums), Kenneth Matterne (lead vocals & guitar) formed the foundations of Replica. In those days, drummers and bass players were nowhere to be seen, because Pieter was still tapping the strings on the fret board. But since drummers were scarcely found back then, Pieter decided to give it a try on the drums.
The newly formed duo lacked a bass player and a second guitarist. Bruno Hendrickx (bass guitar) together with Wim Mathues (guitar & backing vocals) quickly filled in these positions. Those two were practising together for a considerable long time, so they completed each other perfectly. The foursome initially played covers, before they moved on to making their own songs.
Replica is mainly influenced by bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, Muse, Placebo, and Bush. All of this is mixed and covered with energetic rock.
A gig of Replica is innovative, spontaneous and it doesn't leave you unaffected!
In 2007, Replica was awarded with the 'Hagelandse Rocktrofee', where they managed to obtain first place with both jury and audience!
