Moby's out to play but disappoints on every level at the cavernous Wembley Arena.
A dull, drab letdown of a day in late November - the climate's the same inside as it is outside tonight. Moby takes centre stage surrounded by what looks like a miniature version of the Pyrenees and Jams his band from a three minute obscurity straight into crowd pleasing mode with 'Porcelain'.
In fact the first 10 minutes or so of the set really does set the stall for tonight - with Moby's dalliance with the crowd ever more reliant on material from his all-conquering 'Play', as well as a scattering of newer singles from the recent '18'.
Truth be told there are very few bright moments tonight - 'Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad', 'We Are Made Of Stars' and 'Natural Blues' are the predicable few. Some of the newer tracks - particularly 'Extreme Ways' and ' Great Escape' seem to lack any dynamics (perplexing when you consider the stage - full of instruments) and have a rather forced air about them. The DJ battle interlude is an amauturistic waste of time, and near the end of the set we get a predictable tirade from Moby damming the current Bush administration.
It seems Moby needs people to like him - to gain the crowd's acceptance seems the order of the day tonight - rather unfathomable seeing as people are here for pretty much no other reason than to enjoy his music.
