The daughter of Ravi Shankar explores jazz, blues and country on her debut album 'Come Away With Me' which is nothing short of a little masterpeice.

Texas raised Norah Jones, an accomplished Jazz Pianist and singer is the 22 year old daughter of Indian Sitar maestro Ravi Shankar.
Her debut album 'Come away with me' is nothing short of a little masterpeice. She has assured phrasing and timing and a mature timbre to her voice and has surrounded herself with some of the industry's finest including producer Arif Mardin. Veteran producer Mardin ensures that Jones' voice takes centre stage.
Although she has a distinct sound of her own it is not difficult to recognise the influences of greats such as Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. She covers the Hank Williams' classic 'Cold cold heart and Hoagy Carmichael's 'The Nearness of you' with superb control and interpretation.
The rest of the album is taken up with her own material, which although very good does show signs of weakness alongside these classic covers. The track that seems to be the UK promotional tool is 'Don't Know Why'. This really embodies her distinct style of a mix of jazz, blues and country.
The general feel of the album is very relaxed, full of ballads and downbeat jazz tinged lullabies. She has caused a scene from fans and industry alike in the US and this looks like it could be repeated in the UK. Her debut album looks destined to enter the UK album charts and start her out on a long career.
