George Michael has openly condemned his arrest for driving while under the influence of drugs last year, telling a judge he had done something 'very stupid'.
The 43-year-old pop star was in Brent Magistrates' Court for the first day of his trial on a charge of driving while unfit through drugs, which stems from an October 2006 arrest in North London.
Michael lodged a guilty plea, claiming he was guilty due to 'tiredness and prescribed drugs', adding he was 'very ashamed' of his drug-driving actions, and took the opportunity to speak to the judge directly.
He said: "I did something very stupid and I am very ashamed since doing it. I'm not used to defending myself in a position where I am ashamed of something.
"I really have been very distressed by this whole thing. I am perfectly aware that I did something very wrong and got into my car when I was unfit to drive.
"I was not in my normal physical state and I'm perfectly prepared to accept the correct punishment for that and I would have accepted it a long time ago."
Sentencing will be passed on May 30th, after further blood tests are carried out.
