
News is reaching us today that the Smashing Pumpkins are lining up a huge comeback show at this year's Download Festival.
The seminal 90's rockers reformed in 2005 with frontman Billy Cogan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, and have been working steadily on a new studio album for release this spring

This week, the band have confirmed their first live shows of 2007 at Germany's huge Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park Festivals, on June 2nd and 3rd. And with the UK's flagship rock event, the Download Festival in Donnington, coming less than a week after the Germany show - it seems the band look set to make their live return to the UK in style.
We're told the band won't headline the event - rather playing a low-key slot prior to Iron Maiden's headline set on Sunday night. Earlier in the weekend, My Chemical Romance and Linkin' Park will headline Friday and Saturday night.
Also in the pipeline are a number of small club shows during their European jaunt.
