British jazz legend George Melly has been hospitalised after collapsing on stage last week.
The 80-year-old singer, known for his larger-than-life persona and hard-living ways, was performing a packed show at a venue in East Sussex on Thursday night, when he suffered the breakdown. Melly is now recovering at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton from suspected dehydration, and doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
His wife Diana reveals, "I believe he became dehydrated during the performance and just collapsed. He has been taking some new medication and I suspect it might have something to do with that.
"Apparently after he was carried off stage, they gave him a glass of water and he said 'Right I'm going back on'. But of course our granddaughter stopped him and he was taken to accident and emergency, and has been transferred to a ward."
