The Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Stadium Arcadium" will battle for album of the year at the 49th Grammy Awards with Dixie Chicks' "Taking The Long Way", John Mayer's "Continuum", Gnarls Barkley's "St. Elsewhere" and Justin Timberlake's "FutureSex/LoveSounds", it was announced yesterday during the latest Grammy Awards nominations.
Leading the field for the 49th annual industry awards ceremony, the most respected of it's kind in the music industry, is Mary J. Blige however, who failed to land an album of the year nomination but picked up eight other nominations for her album "The Breakthrough".
Instead, the urban star lands a nomination for record of the year for her hit song "Be Without You", which goes against James Blunt's "Your Beautiful", Dixie Chicks' "Not Ready To Make Nice", Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" and British star Corinne Bailey Rae's "Put Your Records On".
Blige's other nominations include Best Female R&B Performance and Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance.
Leading the British nominations is James Blunt with five nods, with Corinne Bailey Rae, Arctic Moneys, Goldfrapp, Imogen Heap and Pet Shop Boys all up for multiple Grammy Awards.
The awards will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on 11 February.
