American alt-folk music stalwart Will Oldham, aka Bonnie Prince Billy, is to make his first starring role in a big screen feature film next year, Sound Generator can report.
Old Joy is set for release across the UK from January 26th, via Soda Pictures, and is based on the short story by Jonathan Raymond. Following Oldham as Kurt, and Daniel London as Mark, the story's two main protagonists, the film is based around a weekend camping trip by two old friends in the Oregon wilderness which leads to feelings of melancholy contemplation and the passing of time.
After already scooping a clutch of prizes at Sundance, the indie feature looks set to catch on as a cult hit.
Old Joy isn't by any means Oldham's first foray into film, although it is his first starring role. Previously, the 36-year-old has been seen in the 30-minute documentary Tripping with Caveh (2004), the Academy Award-nominated Junebug (2005)
