Michael Jackson's long-feted appearance at the World Music Awards last night, for which he is reported to have taken a paycheck for £250,000, turned into a disaster as the star walked off stage after less than a minute into his performance.
Hosted by Lindsay Lohan, and featuring performances by Beyonce and Razorlight among others, the superstar's appearance was supposed to herald his return to the limelight following his 2005 trial, and subsequent media evasion.
But after appearing on stage at the Earls Court arena with a kids' choir and managing just the chorus to his charity single "We Are The World", he stopped singing and addressed the crowd - hundreds of which were die-hard Jackson fans - by saying "I love you, I love you" before walking off.
After leaving the stage, the crowd expressed their dismay, booing and stamping their feet.
Earlier in the night Jacko had picked up a Diamond Award for selling more than 100 million albums in his career.
