Axl Rose was full of praise for pop starlet Christina Aguilera when they met recently backstage, describing her as one of the 'greatest vocalists' of her generation.
Rose, who recently told press that the long-delayed new GNR set "Chinese Democracy" would be released in November, was famed for his bad-boy hostility in previous years, once attempting to attack Nirvana backstage after both bands launched a war of words. However, it seems graciousness has come with age for the 44-year-old.
"Axl Rose was backstage in the greenroom at the VMAs, right near my glam squad, Aguilera tells Blender Magazine. "I heard that he made everyone in the room quiet down so he could hear my performance. When I met him backstage, he shook my hand and said, 'You are one of the greatest vocalists of our time'. Isn't that sweet? Because in my day, Guns N' Roses were, like 'it.'"
The 2006 MTV Video Music Awards took place August 31 at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City, with Rose introducing the Killers' new single "When You Were Young".
