A Scottish court heard yesterday details of an alleged assault by Echo and The Bunnymen star Ian McCulloch on two fans last year.
The singer is accused of attacking Gary Duncan and his girlfriend Juliet Sebley backstage following a concert at the Glasgow Barrowlands on October 23, 2005, and a judge heard evidence yesterday (Sep. 6) from the couple, reports the BBC.
Liverpool-based McCulloch denies two charges of assault, and will give evidence on September 18 in court.
Duncan told Glasgow District Court that he and his girlfriend were able to go backstage after the band's concert to use the toilets, after spotting McCulloch, asked him if they could use the toilets.
After going into separate cubicles, Duncan heard "fierce roaring and threatening language" coming from outside the door and after exiting the toilet, was reportedly pushed repeatedly by McCulloch. "He [McCulloch] was threatening to kick the doors in of the toilets if we didn't get out," Duncan said. According to his testimony, Mr Duncan said then told by the member of McCulloch's entourage: "Don't worry, she'll be all right with Mac," after asking where his girlfriend was. Ms Sebley told the court she received a cut on her head after the singer kicked open the cubicle door, which struck her head.
McCulloch's lawyer argued, however, that the Mr McCulloch had simply just put his hand on his back and escorted Mr Duncan from the private area of the dressing room, and that the couple were in fact both in the same cubicle simultaneously.
