Singer Bobby Gillespie was left with two black eyes and a broken nose after a fight broke out in a Madrid bar - but still managed to show up for a scheduled appearance on Top Of the Pops 12 hours later.
The Primal Scream frontman, 42, was reportedly attacked without provocation early Saturday morning following a gig in the Spanish city, and was assaulted as he relaxed at a hotel bar.
A band spokesman said in a statement: "There was an incident in Madrid on Friday. Bobby was in the hotel bar when a guy lunged at him in an unprovoked attack that left him with facial injuries. The band were late for the show because doctors advised him not to fly until Sunday afternoon. Top Of The Pops were very understanding and they performed as expected that evening."
Primal Scream were due to record a segment for Top Of The Pops on Sunday, which was delayed after doctors advised Gillespie not to immediately fly.
"Top of the Pops were very understanding of the situation," Rab Andrew, the band's manager added to the BBC.
