The sports legend revisiting his rap role.John Barnes is set to rock the mic once more on a charity single to support England's summer World cup campaign.
The Anfield legend, who won League, FA and League Cup medals with Liverpool F.C, says he would make his third appearance on record - following an unforgettable spot on New Order's 1990 anthem 'World In Motion' and an earlier track written for Liverpool's 1988 FA Cup appearance - as long as the rap was up to spec.
"If you write a rap like Kanye West or Busta Rhymes, something which gives me a bit more street cred, a bit of a gangsta rap, then I will gladly do it," he said of the track, which will raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, and is being organised by Virgin Radio.
"As long as it has a bit of soul and rhythm to it then I'll do it."
The track has been titled "The People's Anthem", and, although no other artists are yet confirmed, radio DJ Christian O'Connell is certain it will succeed.
"Now that we have Barnesy on board, whatever tune the FA comes up with has no chance," he said.
