Green Day's Armstrong strikes solo path
Billy Joe releases a solo track
Billy Joe releases a solo track.

Punk rock icon Billy Joe Armstrong has recorded his first solo track.

The Green Day star contributes to 'Live Freaky Die Freaky', an animated puppet film produced by Rancid's Tim Armstrong, with the track 'Mechanical Man'.

The film, which is based loosely on the cult of Charles Manson, is something of a punk rock tour-de-force, with Armstrong voicing the character of Manson and Jane Wiedlin, Kelly Osbourne, Asia Argento, Good Charlotte's Benji and Joel Madden and Henry Rollins all additionally contributing.
