First draft lyrics up for auction in London.
A rare first working draft of the lyrics for 'I'm Only Sleeping' will go under the hammer later today at a London auction.
The lyrics written by John Lennon consist of 17 lines mostly written in blue felt pen, on the reverse of a final demand from the GPO for a bill relating to Lennon's car radiophone dated 25 APR 1966. The page of writing is an intriguing view and insight of the legendary songwriter's process of lyric writing. Here Lennon, in this initial draft which is far briefer than the final recorded version shows alterations, deletions and variations of text.
A host of other collectable items are also part of Christie's pop memorabilia sale, which takes place today (Wednesday 29th Sep) at their central London showrooms in South Kensington.
The auction features memorabilia across all genres from Country to rock and with varied price tags. For a few hundred pounds signed albums, posters and books by the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Brian Wilson, The Band and Billy Fury can be picked up to guitars owned by Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, BB King which look set to go for thousands of pounds.
