The Japanese city of Kobe will host the International Cello Congress this coming May

World-renowned Cellist and music director Mstislav Rostropovich will conduct a concert for 1,000 cellos this May as part of a live homage to the stringed instrument.
The international cello Congress is to be held in Kobe, Japan from May 16-22. The deadline for master classes is the end of this month, January 31st with the registration deadline to take part in the event in March 31st.
Leading Japanese cellist Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, the president of the Japan Cello Society, has been named the artistic director of the event.
The unique concert for 1,000 cellos will include both amateur and professional cellist and will take place on the 22nd May, the closing day of the event and will be held at the World Hall arena.
A selection of concerts, master classes and workshops will also take place at various venues across the city, including the International Conference Centre, Kobe and Kobe's Portopia Hall.
Music for the event will be a mixture of classics, contemporary and newly commissioned works. Music by Charles Davidoff, Shigeaki Saegusa and a specially commissioned work by Rodin Shchedrin, will sit along side works by Bach, Beethoven, Bach & Elgar.
