The lowest musical note ever registered has been discovered in Space by astronomers in America – 57 octaves (684 notes) below the middle C register on an instrument.
The discovery was made while the Chandra X-Ray observatory operated by NASA was investigating the ‘Perseus Cluster’, a black hole which is over 250 million light years away. The discovery could be used to chart the development of clusters throughout our Galaxy – the sound waves moving through the hot gas does explain the question of why gasses surrounding the cluster do not cool down over time.
Scientists weren’t particularly surprised by the discovery due to the turbulent and chaotic nature of a black hole, saying in fact a potential orchestra of sound waves fly around space close to a black hole. Samplers beware though – the sound is far below the range of human hearing!
