Powerhouse label Interscope records are to jump aboard the Pop Idol phenomenon by launching a TV show searching for the next major Hip Hop star.
Interscope, home to a number of major Hip Hop acts like Eminem and 50 Cent, is working with cable TV channel Showtime Records for the show - titled 'Interscope Presents The Next' and will feature the normal audition format mixed in with the 'battle rap' style as seen in the Eminem movie '8 Mile'.
The show hits TV screens this October in the US and will feature five pairs of wannabe rappers (from New York, L.A, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Detroit) going head to head to reach the grand final. The ten finalists were chosen from an initial group of thousands and the shows will also look at the lifestyles and neighbourhoods of the rappers.
