Playing an instrument can have several benefits, according to an expert.

Playing a musical instrument help to make people smarter, new research has suggested.
Lutz Jancke, a member of the Faculty of 1000 Medicine, claimed in the Biology Reports journal that the brain function and anatomy can be changed if people learn to play an instrument.
In addition, the expert said that music could be used part of the therapeutic process to improve cognitive skills such as memory, mood or language, as the parts of the brain involved in using an instruments utilise the same parts of the organ.
Mr Jancke wrote: "If music has such a strong influence on brain plasticity, this raises the question of whether this effect can be used to enhance cognitive performance."
He also said there is the chance that music could be used to improve neuropsychological rehabilitation in the future.
Earlier this year, piano expert Duane Shinn claimed that music making can have a range of benefits, such as allowing people to relax, bond with others and improve their emotional health.
