Chris Cornell is not disappointed with his recent solo record.
Chris Cornell has defended his new solo album Scream against its early negative reviews.
In an interview with AlternativeAddiction.com, the former Soundgarden man suggested that part of the reason it has not been an immediate success is due to his fans' commitment to his previous bands.
He explained: "To them that's kind of who I am, I'm that guy in that band and I'm that guy who wrote those songs."
The musician added that, as an artist, he feels the need to take chances and use his imagination when penning new material.
Cornell told the news provider: "As a songwriter and creative person, I have to do what makes me happy."
He also spoke about the process of recording the new album, which was produced by Timbaland, and said it is different working alone than it is with a band, which tend to be a more drawn out and democratic affair.
Cornell ended the interview by saying he is proud of the record and claiming he listens to it more than some of his previous efforts.
Recently, the performer told NME.com that he did not meet Timbaland before beginning work on Scream, having arranged the collaboration through a ten-minute phonecall.
