The South Bank Show Awards handed a music accolade to Elbow.
Indie band Elbow have been recognised at the South Bank Show Awards.
The Manchester group picked up the pop prize at a ceremony last night (January 21st), seeing off competition from singer/songwriter Laura Marling and R&B star Estelle.
Guests at the awards, which were held on January 20th and will be broadcast on January 28th, included Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, songstress Sophie Ellis Bextor and indie rockers Razorlight.
Winning the South Bank honour is the latest success for Mercury prize-winning Elbow, who were yesterday nominated for three Brit Awards.
The band is in the running for best British group, best live act and best album, but faces competition from Coldplay in each category.
In addition, they recently performed the entirety of their The Seldom Seen Kid record accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra in a special gig at London's Abbey Road studios on January 17th.
Reporting on the event, the Daily Star said frontman Guy Garvey "offset the glorious picking acoustic piano of Weather To Fly with a brooding whispered refrain that erupted into a distant howl".
