Exclusive - Holloways escape fire horror at Nambucca
Fire crews battle massive fire at London music venue

At around 11:30 pm on Tuesday 16th December 2008 a fire appears to have started in the cellar of Nambucca, a popular music venue on Holloway Road North London. The fire quickly spread throughout the venue which is also home to indie the band the Holloways and many other musicians who live in flats above the venue.

Chris from Feed your Head Music [www.feedyourheadmusic.com] told Tourdates “NAMBUCCA is currently BURNING DOWN as I speak, I’m sat in my office opposite the venue, it’s now just gone 3.30am and still burning! The whole building will be a right off”

Chris added “Everyone has got out safely, so it appears there are no casualties”

At 06:30 the fire was still raging with some 14 fire engines and 100 firemen in attendance, as well as national grid, and a Salvation Army truck giving out food.

I heard the venue changed hands just this weekend, the new owner must be gutted!

Hopefully the owners were insured, then maybe Nambucca will get a shiny new refit and be the 'hottest' venue in town :p What would the playlist\line-up be for the opening night though?

They would have to start the set with a the Crazy World of Arthur Brown's song, Fire, and follow it up with the Move song Fire Brigade then pan to the film of the owners face when he was first told of the fire, and play Procal Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale.

"The new owner must be gutted" Just like the building then? ;-) (Did I really just say that??) As for a playlist, we could have "Burn Burn" by Lost Prophets, "Burn the Witch" by QOSA, "Burn out bright" by Switchfoot, "Love Burns" by BRMC,"Set the fire to the third bar" by Snow Patrol, "Fields of Fire" by Big Country,"A tendency to start Fires" by Bush, and "Burnt" by The Futureheads, followed by "Rising" from Trivium, and "Open all night" Springsteen. Then everyone can celebrate with "Red red wine" by UB40 :-)

Not such a close shave for the Holloways -none of them have lived there for a good while. Hope the refit isn't too shiny. We like scuzzy Nambucca.
