The World Music Awards 2008 has named Coldplay the top-selling act of the year.

Coldplay has been named as the world's top-selling act of the year at an awards ceremony.
The British band was handed the accolade at the World Music Awards 2008, which was held in Monaco, after latest album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends sailed to the top of the charts in the UK, US, Japan, Germany, France and other countries.
In addition, the group received the rock act of the year title at the ceremony, although they were not present to collect the honour.
The night also saw Back To Black singer Amy Winehouse named female pop/rock act of the year, while US star Kid Rock took the male equivalent.
Ringo Starr was present at the event to collect the diamond award for The Beatles.
Created in 2001, the honour recognises bands who have sold more than 100 million albums throughout their career.
Winners from the World Music Awards 2007 included Mika, Avril Lavigne, Nightwish and U2.
