Lightspeed Champion admitted whilst on stage in the NME tent that he had been asked to replace Slipknot, who pulled out during the week.
It is not known whether Hynes was joking or not as he announced: “There was a rumour we would replace Slipknot. We couldn't take that weight on our shoulders so here we are."
Opening with ‘Dry Lips’ from recent album, ‘Falling off the Lavender Bridge’, the singer’s set also included new songs ‘The Kids’ and ‘Marlene’.
He also played recent singles ‘Tell Me What It’s Worth’ and finished on ‘Midnight Surprise’, which was accompanied by the now regular medley of the Star Wars theme tune.
Halfway through his short set, he jammed along to The Cribs’ ‘I’m A Realist’, before revealing: “When they play I'm going to be right there,” and pointing at the front row.
