After Neon Neon’s Gruff Rhys backed up claims that John Lydon racially abused Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke, his bandmate Boom Bip has given his side.
Bip agrees with Rhys that the Sex Pistol was in the wrong. Speaking to Gigwise, Bip gave his account of proceedings: "Bloc Party, Foals, Kaiser Chiefs, The Raveonettes and Mogwai were in our trailer, The Sex Pistols were a couple of trailers away. We were going one by one to meet them and get photos. The security got in before we could help Kele”.
The incident reportedly erupted into a fight, with members of Foals and Kaiser Chiefs both involved. Bip went on to say he thought the fault should lie with Lydon: “Lydon said the younger bands were jealous, but we went to him in admiration, not jealousy. He showed his true colours, the hero turned out to be a bigot arsehole".
This could well be the last word on the matter, with police not expected to press charges.
