Rihanna will take her first steps in the acting world with a role in a new drama set in 1930's America.
The Trinidadian star will star alongside Mos Def - himself now well established on the big screen after making a move from music some ten years previous - in 'Mama Black Widow', to be directed by Darren Grant.
The film's plot synopsis reveals, "Mama Black Widow is the portrait of a black family's migration from the southern Mississippi fields of the segregated south to the ghettoized black underworld of Chicago during the 1930's."
Also in a starring role is Transformers star Antony Anderson, while another musician - Macy Gray - will also feature in the film.
Rihanna's latest single 'Take A Bow' was last week's No. 1 single on the Billboard charts, and debuted at two in the UK this week.
