Female hip-hop musician Remy Ma has been convicted of the July 2007 shooting of a woman in New York.
The 25-year-old rapper, real name Remy Smith, faces up to 25 years in prison following the trial, which heard her defence argue that Smith had fired a shot at her friend outside a nightclub last July by accident, after she suspected the woman of stealing $3,000 (£1,500) from her.
Makeda Barnes Joseph, who was shot in the lower abdomen, revealed she had undergone three operations during the three week stint in hospital to save her life. She says Smith followed her into her car after leaving the club and demanded she reveal the contents of her purse.
Smith was part of rap outfit the Terror Squad for their Grammy nominated single 'Lean Back' and reportedly left the Manhattan court room in tears after hearing the verdict.
Justice Rena Uviller ordered that Smith would remain in jail without bail until sentencing in April.
