Chris Cornell will take a different musical direction on his new solo album, which he's currently writing with hip-hop hitmaker Timbaland.
Cornell, one of the most distinguished rock frontman of the last twenty years, has fronted Soundgarden, Audioslave and also released several solo albums in recent years, but revealing his partnership with Timbaland, tells press that the project is more of a 'band' set-up than the usual artist-producer relationship.
He says, "This is different from anything I've ever done. I've come from an indie rock world, where, if you have a producer, it's somebody who's not a musician, not a songwriter. It was as if we were in a band.
"He's just someone who twists knobs and can kinda tell you if they think a song is too long or too short or needs to be more aggressive."
Timblaland himself describes the material as "the best work I've done in my career".
"This will be everybody's favourite album of this year," he adds.
