Radiohead left EMI Records after 16 years because the famed record label had lost its way, the band have revealed.
EMI were taken over last year by Terra Firma, and guitarist Ed O'Brien reveals the two parties were unable to reach a new deal because the label's new owners were unable to meet Radiohead's demands.
"EMI is in a state of flux. It's been taken over by somebody who's never owned a record company before, Guy Hands and Terra Firma, and they don't realise what they're dealing with," he said. "It was really sad to leave all the people. But he wouldn't give us what we wanted. He didn't know what to offer us. Terra Firma doesn't understand the music industry."
Last month Radiohead signed a deal with indie label XL Recordings - home to The White Stripes and Dizzee Rascal - to physically release their new album "IN Rainbows", which shocked the industry when the band decided to release as a pay-what-you-want download in October.
