Apple has updated its massively popular iPod music player range with a selection of new models - including one with touch screen technology.
Announced yesterday at a special press conference, Apple boss Steve Jobs confirmed that the range of portable music players would be joined by a touch-screen iPod with widescreen, wi-fi and a web browser - enabling people to buy music when out and about.
Alongside the 'iPod touch', was a new range of their traditional machines, a revamped 80gb and 160gb iPod, which is renamed the iPod Classic and new range of iPod Nanos and iPod Shuffles.
Said Mr Jobs: "It's one of the seven wonders of the world - it's just incredible."
“The iPod touch is a landmark iPod, ushering in a whole new generation of features based on its revolutionary multi-touch interface and built-in Wi-Fi wireless networking. People are going to be amazed at how thin it is and how much it does.”
The touch screen iPod will be available in two versions that have 8 or 16 gigabytes of memory, which has drawn criticism from the Mac community for its lack of storage capacity. In the US the smaller device will cost $299 (£199 for the UK), with the 16GB model priced at $399 (£269 in the UK). It will be available to buy in shops from late September.
