The Foo Fighters took the stage yesterday afternoon at the Chelmsford leg of the V Festival seven hours ahead of their main-stage headline slot - unexpectedly treating fans to a short acoustic set.
The band played at around 1pm on the Channel 4 stage, and billed as 606, played several new songs in acoustic format which are set to appear on their forthcoming new album Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
, as well as several old hits.
Joined by fomer Germs and Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear and violinist Jesse Green, the band included a Nirvana b-side Marigold

and new track But Honestly
Frontman Dave Grohl told the crowd, "I was under the impression that this [surprise show] was gonna be in a little tent. We're gonna play some acoustic songs, then you've got six or seven hours to get pissed for our rock show tonight."
The U.S. rockers graced the main stage yesterday night for a full-throttle set and play the
