Sitting in the dingy, intimate surroundings of the Notting Hill arts club on a glorious Saturday evening, you'd think we were listening to a pre-recorded playback.
Gravenhurst, a.k.a Nick Talbot, is clearly in fine voice tonight, but such is his modestly, you'd do well to take this as the norm. The tiny gathered audience, with friends and family present, are given a mainline shot of tracks mostly taken from his recent, acclaimed set "Flashlight Sessions" - his first for Warp Records, and with a 30 minute slot, time soars rather than flies.
Highlight track "The Diver" only comes out in the encore, such is the strength of the set, a stripped down acoustic performance, a one man flight of fancy which treads a path of many pitfalls which seems more like a walk in the park for the talented Bristol-native.
Is quiet yet again the new rock n' roll?
