The release of this slimmed-down version or English Summer Rain is, apart from being the fourth single off their fourth album, Sleeping With Ghosts, a plug for the DVD release "Soulmates Never Die - Live in Paris", out March 15th.
Releasing a fourth single acts less to generate a fan base bigger than the considerable one they already have, and more to keep Placebo looking busy in the public eye. And busy they are, playing sell-out gigs in the UK and touring China this spring.
A minute shorter (the intro is out) than the album version, the reworked English Summer Rain is tighter, clubbier and more processed. A good-enough tune to start off with, it's still not worthy to feature on any significant A or B lists.
