- Much like Oasis did in their Britpop heyday, New Vinyl marry noisy guitars to rip roaring pop melodies, belting out immediately in your face songs dripping with swagger and confidence. With new single MAKIN' IT EASY, the Wakefield indie rockers don't reinvent the musical wheel; instead opting to craftily mould The Jam, Oasis and The Arctic Monkeys into one blisteringly solid whole. A hook laden song that piles on sing along melody after sing along melody until you're beaten black and blue into submission, blazing guitar solos and frenetic drum beats completing the package. Sure, a few less than inspiring electro touches and a slight lack of personality in the vocals stop MAKIN' IT EASY from quite sounding like a stone cold classic, but you suspect New Vinyl are still finding their musical feet here; this the first step towards something truly special. A little rough around the edges and patchy in places, but MAKIN' IT EASY certainly inspires confidence that New Vinyl are definite ones
- New Vinyl hail from Wakefield and their swirl of keys and busy, XXL guitars seems to be influenced by The Who. This is a busy attack of melodics and four chord crashes separated by the odd boom and a great guitar break. “Makin’ It Easy” also reminds me of Eddie & The Hot Rods. I’d be satisfied with that but the second track (untitled here) seems a little bit too stabbed out. But amongst, the solid vocal style is individual enough to certainly grab my attention. The CD in general misses the kind of production they really need to pull this off, but the potential is written in big letters across it all. As a result the guitars seem a little to understated, but with a little more application this could build on such a pleasing effort. - By Manuel Ecostos - http://manchestermusic.co.uk/
