It was in 2000, when high school friends Gerard Way and Matt Pelissier decided to try writing some songs together that My Chemical Romance was born. The first song they wrote was ‘Skylines and Turnstiles”, a post 9/11 song written after Way witnessed the fall of the twin towers. Lead singer Gerard Way and drummer Matt Palissier then completed the band’s line up by asking guitarist Ray Toro, bassist Mikey Way and guitarist Frank Iero to join them. The name My Chemical Romance was inspired by Transpotting author Irvine Welsh. My Chemical Romance’s music can sometimes be loud, fast and aggressive as well as sometimes melodic and pop-minded. In 2002 the band released their debut album ‘I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love’ on New York based Eyeball Records. The following year My Chemical Romance signed with Reprise/Warner and released ‘Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge’ which proved to be widely popular. The most successful singles were ‘I’m not Okay’, ‘Helena’ and ‘The Ghost Of You’.In 2004, as the band received ever growing popularity Pelissier departed the band and was replaced on drums by Bob Bryar. The new line up did extensive touring before its latest album release, ‘Life on The Murder Scene’ in March 2006.
