Boy/girl harmonies, scorching guitar hooks with punky disco beats, spunky bass riffs and corpulent analogue synths. The music brings together the grimy groove of Peaches, the chiselled chops of AC/DC, the visionary cool of Television, and Duran Duran's hair.
Biography
Paris, summer 2005. “Let’s write a pop song.” Surviving on a diet of John Hughes, John Waters and David Lynch movies... and Def Leppard’s Hysteria, it’s in their tiny Parisian apartment that Jez and Caz perfected the recipe for their dirty-minded guitar-led synth-rock. Accompanied by Chaz and Toz, they chose a moniker in fitting with their green and orange attire: Molloy was thus born.
London, summer 2007. Many pop songs later, the now Shoreditch-based Molloy released their first single, Tracy (Way Out Records - London), to critical acclaim and a digital mini album, This Is Fucking Brilliant (Kitty-Yo - Berlin) which was Steve Lamacq’s album of the week on Radio 1. They have also been supported and played by radio djs Alex Zane and Cheeky Pete (XFM), Tom Robinson (BBC6) and trendy Durr dj Jonjo.
Molloy’s latest 4 track EP, Thursday Electric, released on upcoming Parisian label Silverstation Records, was recommended by the likes of Artrocker and Dazed as well as the international indie press and received heaps of national radio play in France and the UK.
They’ve been touring non-stop in their green and orange molloymobile and their bespoke live performance – live meaning no sequencers or backing tracks! - with toys, telephone, megaphone and all analogue equipment, has earned them the INDY Award for “Best New Wave/Progressive Act”. They were also one of the few bands selected to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on the XFM/PRS stage.
They recently returned from playing two successful showcases at Canadian Music Week 2009 in Toronto, which included a set at the legendary El Mocambo and a radio session on CIUT
They are now busy... recording and mixing their debut long player! It’s sounding AWESOME!
