The peculiarly named The Very Best met when Radioclit’s Etienne Tron went to buy a bike from a second hand shop in East London.
Tron hit it off with shop owner, expat Malawian Esau Mwamwaya, and, after hooking up with fellow Radioclit member Johan Karlberg, The Very Best was formed. ‘Warm Heart of Africa’ is their first artist album, which follows a mixtape last year, with Mwamwaya singing over a series of pop, dance, afro and indie tracks.
Warm Heart of Africa takes up where this left off, merging the same styles and creating a highly enjoyable and uplifting set of original tunes. Mwamwaya’s multi-layered African vocals sit well on top of Tron and Karlberg’s diversely styled productions.
The likes of the title track, which is surely a major summer smash in the making, ‘Kamphopo’ and the acid meets afro sound of ‘Julia’ are smile inducing, life-affirming moments of greatness.
