The humble punter’s – eye view of live London

by Tourdates Staff Writer, first published in LondonTourdates #050 ,3rd July 2009

What’s your favourite London music venue?
Probably Brixton Academy. I’ve been to a few gigs there that I’ve really enjoyed. Some good times. Best concert there was the Pogues Christmas concert!

What was the last gig you went to?
Talib Kweli and Idle Warship at the Camden Centre. It was good. Slightly weird venue – I’ve not been here before. Me and my mate walked in quite early and it looked like a school disco. Kweli is awesome, and it’s the first time I’ve seen him.

What was the first gig you ever went to?
Alicia Keys – somewhat embarrassingly. Hammersmith Apollo five, six years ago.

So that would be the best gig you’ve ever seen?
That Pogues gig I mentioned. That was awesome. I grew up with them so it was fantastic. Seeing them at Christmas made it for me.

What was the worst gig you’ve ever seen?
Destiny’s Child in Wembley Stadium. We were sitting down, it wasn’t very good.

Which band from throughout history would you have liked to see?
I’d say the Stones early on, when they were still doing the rock and roll stuff they were doing in the early 60s.
