Hi. We write for ltd. Can we..?
Can I see some ID?
Uh…
Well you’re just some bloke holding a magazine. How do I know you’re for real? [We show him a dog-eared drivers license and he agrees to chat to us]
What’s your favourite London music venue?
Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club. It’s small, it’s intimate, it has history, it’s been revamped and has an eclectic mixture of music; cabaret and stuff from the 60s and 70s.
What was the last gig you went to?
Phuturesonic at Favela Chic. I enjoyed them; I think they’re very good, very tight, fantastic musicianship. They engage with their crowd.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
AC/DC, Back in Black, 1984. They were incredible, amazing – still are!
So that would be the best gig you’ve ever seen?
I don’t think so. Different gigs have different themes. I’ve seen jazz and orchestral gigs that were incredible.
What was the worst gig you’ve ever seen?
Gigs where the musicians may be polished and accomplished, but there’s no vibe. I’d rather watch a guitarist playing distortion through a Marshall stack with his back to the audience.
Which band from throughout history would you have liked to see?
Little Feet. They’re a fantastic band, very very funky.
